Compare the full quote and the cash due
Ask each host or landlord for a dated written quote for your intended stay. Record the currency, rental period, number of occupants and furnishing level before comparing prices. Use the table for each candidate, with the same spending categories throughout.
| Record for each candidate | What to check |
|---|---|
| Currency and quote date | Keep the original quote so a changed price can be rechecked |
| Rental period: nights, 30 days or calendar months | Compare the same intended stay, rather than just the headline number |
| Included services: electricity, water, gas, internet, cleaning and furnishing | Mark included and extra charges so no item is omitted or counted twice |
| Rent payable in advance, and the dates it covers | Identify when the rent is due without treating it as an additional expense |
| Deposit due before moving in, and its written return conditions | Include the requested payment in entry cash even while its eventual refund is unknown |
| Furnishing and one-off setup purchases | Record what you would need to obtain before using the home |
| Internet subscription holder and plan | Establish who pays and whether service exists or still needs arranging |
| Routine travel, food and other living spending | Use your expected routine to compare a living budget, not rent alone |
Read the completed table in two ways. Your recurring budget includes rent, bills that are not included and your regular living spending. Your entry cash includes everything actually due before moving in: rent payable in advance, a requested deposit and one-off setup purchases. Prepaid rent can appear in both views because one describes the cost of the stay and the other describes when you need the money. Do not add the two totals together or count the same rent twice within one calculation.
Record the deposit amount and its return conditions separately. Until these are confirmed, leave its eventual cost unresolved; do not assume a refund or treat an unknown amount as zero. A calendar-month rent, a 30-day internet renewal and a stay counted in nights also use different periods. If you convert them for comparison, write down the convention and keep their actual payment dates.
Cairo neighbourhoods, 6 October and Dahab remain candidates requiring individual quotes and checks. The supplied material establishes no verified local rent benchmark or measured conditions for a particular home, and provides no property-specific data for Dahab. The partial forum material is a lead for questions, not a current budget standard.
Check how the exact home will connect
Ask whether the home already has a working connection, would need a new service, or uses fixed-address wireless. The supplied operator pages do not establish speed, coverage or installation feasibility for any candidate address. Product descriptions help you ask the right questions; they do not replace confirmation for the home.
An existing fixed line. Ask the host or landlord which plan is active, who holds the account and who pays for it. WE Space plans combine a data quota with an advertised maximum speed. That maximum is not a measured speed at your desk. The listed monthly prices, captured on 2026-10-04, are in EGP per month before VAT, rather than verified costs for an individual home.
After WE Space’s monthly quota is exhausted, use can continue without a data cap at a reduced speed. An early package renewal or extra quota restores the plan speed during that month, without guaranteeing the actual speed at the property. Add-ons can be bought once or through a subscription renewing every 30 days; their listed prices exclude VAT. The main plan also renews automatically every 30 days if the account balance is sufficient. Ask who would pay for extra quota if the included allowance does not cover your use.
A new fixed line, if that is the option you choose. Confirm feasibility for the exact installation address with Telecom Egypt before relying on it. Its application page requires a valid national ID and one of these documents for that address: an ownership contract, property contract or electricity, water or gas receipt.
The page does not identify an alternative identity document for non-Egyptian applicants or say whether a tenant’s lease counts as a property contract. Ask Telecom Egypt on 111 which documents it will accept; a landlord’s ownership contract or utility receipt may be needed. Request the contracting/setup quote separately from the package subscription, which is not included in the contracting fees. Put both in your cost comparison.
Fixed-address wireless. WE Air uses a 4G or 5G router and WE data SIM locked to the WE network. It works at one registered location at a time and does not work at an unregistered location. Confirm service at the intended address and the document accepted from a non-Egyptian applicant; the supplied page names national ID for Egyptians but leaves the foreign-applicant document unstated.
WE Air’s main packages renew every 30 days when there is enough balance. Its add-ons last 30 days, do not renew automatically and have listed prices excluding taxes. Confirm the tax treatment of the main package quote with Telecom Egypt. Keep these terms attached to that service rather than assuming the same billing rules as a fixed line.
Try the workspace and your everyday routes
A plan’s download headline does not establish whether your work calls will hold. Check the application you use, including its upload needs, and then try it at the intended desk.
Google’s Meet guidance gives one useful example for small organizations or individuals: 720p video uses up to 1.7 Mbps in each direction per participant. Participant count, screen sharing and other factors also affect bandwidth use. If bandwidth is insufficient, Meet lowers the video definition; Google advises audio only if video cannot be supported.
Microsoft’s guidance for organizations planning Teams networks identifies jitter or packet loss as possible causes of static, cut-outs or robotic-sounding voices. It separately lists insufficient bandwidth as a possible cause of Teams running slowly. These are possible explanations, not a diagnosis of the home you are considering.
Run a real call with your usual tools from the desk where you would work, during your working hours and with normal household use continuing. Note the time, device and call type. This is a practical check you carry out, not an official test or a test performed for this article. One good call does not guarantee reliability.
Ask the host or landlord who else uses the home and what the house routines and rules are. Listen during the hours that matter for your calls, concentration and sleep. The room category alone does not establish noise or the other occupants.
Check the routes you would actually use to shops, services and transport. Walk the relevant route and record your own journey time, rather than relying only on a straight-line map distance. Feed the travel and routine spending you expect into the comparison table. An area name does not answer these questions for an individual home.
Separate privacy from the commitment you make
Stay duration and privacy are separate choices. A short or monthly stay can be an entire place or a room. For the Airbnb categories relevant here:
- An entire place gives you the whole guest space, usually including a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and separate entrance. The host should state in the description whether they will also be on the property.
- A private room gives you your own bedroom while other spaces are shared with the host or other guests.
- A shared room means sharing the sleeping space with other people.
None of these categories guarantees a cheaper or quieter home. Compare the actual quote and the space you would control during work and rest. A flat share arranged directly with a landlord or other tenants, and any compound rules, needs its own confirmation from the landlord or compound management.
On Airbnb, home reservations of 28 nights or more use a long-term cancellation policy, firm or strict depending on the host, generally requiring 30 days’ notice of changes. Check the policy for the specific listing under Reservation details. The first payment may be nonrefundable depending on the listing and how far ahead you book. If you cancel after the stay starts, the following month is nonrefundable, although the host may offer an additional refund.
Payment timing is a separate consideration: for these monthly Airbnb stays, the first month is charged up front. For reservations longer than a month, each later monthly payment is charged 10 days before its payment period. The price is locked in at the start of the reservation; that payment schedule does not establish which services the listing price includes. Confirm those with the host.
A stay below 28 nights still needs its own cancellation and payment terms checked. A shorter booking does not by itself promise a refund or flexibility. Airbnb’s rules also do not cover a direct lease or flat share: obtain its written rent, deposit and return conditions, notice period and house rules from the landlord or agent.
If connection or noise questions remain unanswered, check the actual money at risk before paying for a long stay. Choose the commitment after comparing those terms with what you have verified about the home.
