Choose a hotel if its verified room capacity and services fit your party; consider an entire-home rental if the actual listing confirms the space and amenities you need. Compare final itemised totals for the same dates, guests and nights, adding only meals and journeys not already included.

Space and Services: What Each Option Puts in the Room
Royal Tulip Muscat gives the hotel side of your shortlist a starting point: published guest limits and room areas.
| Category | Maximum occupancy | Published floor area |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Room | 2 guests | 21–26 m² |
| Deluxe Room | 2 guests | 33 m² |
| Suite | 3 guests | 55–110 m² |
On these published limits, four adults cannot share one of these rooms or suites. Confirm the bed layout, extra-bed availability and how children count before deciding which units to book; those details were not established from the page reviewed. Area ranges describe categories, not the precise room allocated.
Tea- and coffee-making facilities and a mini-fridge are listed in the rooms, with seating areas in suites. A kitchen or kitchenette is not listed on the page reviewed; that does not establish whether cooking is possible, so confirm with the hotel if it matters to your stay.
Daily housekeeping and a 24-hour front desk are stated services. The hotel also lists a rooftop pool and spa, with free use of the health club and free Wi-Fi. Pool hours and rules, including any swimwear requirements, and spa prices were not established from that page. Ask before planning to use them.
The hotel offers a buffet breakfast in Wave and breakfast in the room. Long Stay and Escape rates can be booked room only or with breakfast; Half-board includes breakfast and dinner. Escape’s title says breakfast is included, but its terms allow either version. Check the exact dated rate, including the number of people covered, before relying on a package name.
An entire-home category does not establish its guest capacity or equipment. For your shortlist, read the listing’s maximum guests, bedroom and bed layout, and kitchen equipment. Check any meals, pool, parking and house rules on that same listing, and ask the host about missing details. No particular rental was assessed here, so extra space or cooking facilities remain things to verify, rather than advantages you can assume.
The Same Stay, Priced the Same Way
Use the same check-in and check-out dates, guests and nights for both options. If your party needs two hotel rooms, include both in the comparison. No matched hotel and rental quotes were obtained for this article, so neither can be named the cheaper choice.
For an Airbnb home, start with the final checkout total under ‘Price breakdown’. It includes the nightly price and applicable fees and taxes; search results include fees, but taxes may appear only at checkout depending on the guest’s location. Some hosts charge for cleaning, pets or guests beyond a stated number. Include those charges when they apply. Hosts need Airbnb’s express authorisation to collect additional fees outside the platform, and any permitted direct fee should be disclosed in the listing.
For each booking, record which meals are included and for how many people. Ask for separate breakfast prices only where you need them. A second hotel room does not automatically mean an additional breakfast charge: the rate’s actual inclusions decide what remains to buy.
Oman’s Tax Authority identifies hotel stays, holiday rentals and short-term leases as subject to VAT, unlike qualifying residential leases; VAT-registered suppliers charge the standard 5% rate on most goods and services. Separately, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism states that hotel and tourism establishments owe it a 4% tourism tax, paid quarterly. The evidence here does not establish the base of that 4%, whether it appears on guest bills, or whether privately listed short rentals are covered. It also does not establish a municipality or service-charge rate or base for your booking. These figures cannot be combined into a universal accommodation surcharge. Use the final itemisation to see the actual charges, and ask the supplier about unclear tax lines or whether VAT is included.
Build your spending comparison from the final accommodation charge, any meals still to buy and the transport you will pay for. Add a fee or tax only if it has not already been counted. Keep any refundable security deposit or card hold in a separate funds-available column; it is not spending merely because it is required in advance. Later charges for extras or damage are a separate possibility.
Transport: Costs to Add Only Where They Are Not Included
List the arrival and return journeys and the trips you plan during the stay for each shortlisted address. Check whether any transfer or parking is included in the exact booking before adding a cost. Meal labels such as ‘room only’ do not answer that question.
Royal Tulip Muscat lists airport taxis from the arrivals-terminal counter and pre-arranged transfers as ways to reach it, plus on-site parking for guests arriving by car. The page reviewed did not establish fares, transfer prices, travel times to named sights or whether parking is charged. Ask for the prices and inclusions that apply to your plans.
As one airport option, OmanTaxi says it can pick up at Muscat International Airport and at four- and five-star hotels. It describes airport fares as distance-based, with a possible airport booking fee. No amount was established, and that airport pricing description does not establish the basis for hotel pick-ups or other city trips. Obtain route-specific prices rather than applying it to every journey.
Compare the resulting travel costs alongside the accommodation totals. Similar nightly prices can still lead to different spending when the addresses require different journeys; included transfers or parking should be counted once.
Payment, Security and Cancellation
Keep payment timing separate from refundable security and cancellation rights. Paying earlier does not by itself tell you whether a booking is refundable.
For Airbnb, host acceptance triggers the charge on a reservation request; Instant Book reservations are charged immediately. Some qualifying bookings allow instalments, and checkout shows whether yours does. Record the payment schedule and the free-cancellation deadline separately: they serve different purposes and may fall on the same date.
No hotel-specific guarantee or prepayment rule for a dated Royal Tulip Muscat rate was established here. Read the selected rate’s details or ask the hotel for any security amount, whether it is per night or per stay, accepted cards and release timing, as well as the prepayment amount and due date. Obtain that rate’s cancellation and refund terms too. A refundable deposit or card hold belongs in the funds you need available, separately from spending. Its return or release depends on the actual terms, and extras or damage can still lead to charges.
Airbnb says most home hosts may not require a security deposit, either through its Resolution Center or outside the platform. The exception is select software-connected hosts: an off-platform deposit must be disclosed in the appropriate fee field. For a listing that requires one, check the amount and return terms. No advance deposit does not rule out a later damage claim. A host can seek reimbursement through the Resolution Center, and Airbnb may charge the guest’s payment method if it determines the guest is responsible.
Read the cancellation policy for the selected Airbnb home and dates. The host sets the policy and may vary it for particular dates; the policy for your stay is based on your check-in date. It appears on the listing, at confirm-and-pay and in the confirmation email. Some bookings are non-refundable or only partly refundable after a deadline. For certain homes, eligible guests can pay extra to Airbnb to extend free cancellation to 24 hours before check-in. Any refund follows the policy that applies when you cancel: Airbnb says it processes refunds right away, while your bank controls when the money posts.
Keep the written terms for your selected rate or listing before paying, so the decision rests on the booking you will actually make.
