For an unexplained extra charge, avoid confrontation and ask Uber support to review it. In an emergency or immediate danger, contact local authorities or emergency services before notifying Uber.

Before you request: product, payment and the car
Before requesting a ride, enter your destination and check which products the app offers at your pickup. Options vary across Egyptian cities. Motorcycle availability is not confirmed for every pickup, and the car checks below should not be assumed to cover a motorcycle trip.
Check the selected payment method and the displayed estimate before you request. Uber’s Cairo page explains that estimates appear for each ride option after you enter your destination; the actual price may vary, and flat rates or minimum fees can apply. Under Uber Egypt’s terms, charges can rise substantially in some areas during high demand. Uber undertakes to make reasonable efforts to tell riders about applicable charges, while riders remain responsible for charges incurred on their accounts.
A variable estimate or high-demand pricing does not by itself explain whether a separate request for extra cash is justified. If an amount requested in the car differs from the app, keep a note of the request when it is safe to do so and ask support to explain it. Avoid turning the discrepancy into an argument in the vehicle.
Keep these payment distinctions in mind:
- Tips are voluntary. Uber Egypt’s terms allow a gratuity to the independent provider serving you through the service; you are under no obligation to give one.
- Cancelling may cost money. The terms allow cancellation before the provider arrives, but a cancellation fee may apply. Confirm the Egypt fee, any free-cancellation window and any waiver conditions in your app or with support; this guide does not establish those details.
- For cash trips, bring the correct amount. Uber’s Egypt guidelines recommend this and require trips to be requested through the app, rather than arranged as street hails or off-platform pickups.
Before getting into a car, compare its licence plate, make and model with the app and check the driver’s photo. This is Uber’s published car checklist. Its safety page warns that requirements and features can vary by region or be unavailable; applicability to motorcycle trips is not established.
During the ride: danger first, dispute later
If there is an emergency or immediate danger, contact local authorities or emergency services first, then notify Uber. This is the order in Uber’s Egypt Community Guidelines. A fare disagreement alone calls for a payment review; threats, intimidation or dangerous driving may change the situation into an immediate safety problem.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s Egypt travel advice lists 122 for police and 123 for an ambulance. Save them before travelling. These are emergency-service numbers from that advice, not verified numbers dialled by an Uber app button.
Check the safety options in your app before the ride. Uber’s Egypt safety page describes 24/7 in-app support, Share My Trip with chosen Trusted Contacts, and a Safety Centre accessed through a shield icon during a trip. Availability varies by region, and the page does not establish motorcycle coverage. Use the features your trip actually provides; support need not wait until afterwards. An in-app emergency button was not described in the retrieved Egypt safety pages, so check your own app rather than assuming a particular button exists.
Keep safety ahead of arguing or collecting records. Uber’s guidelines prohibit threats, harassment and confrontational behaviour by riders as well as drivers. Avoid escalating a fare dispute, and do not put yourself at risk to document it.
For unsafe driving, describe what happened without mixing it into the payment argument. Uber says it reviews reports of crashes and potentially unsafe driving. Everyone using the platform remains responsible for following traffic laws, and riders should not ask for speeding or illegal manoeuvres. Reporting does not establish what action will follow.
Afterwards: three records, kept separately
Once safe, keep three kinds of information separate. This is a practical way to prepare a clear report, not a legal evidence checklist or a promise of a refund.
| Record | What to keep | What it helps you explain |
|---|---|---|
| The booked trip | App trip details, the selected payment method and any receipt | What the booking and charge records show |
| What you paid | The amount and method, including extra cash and the reason given for it | What actually changed hands |
| The driving incident | What you observed, with the time, place and sequence as you remember them | The safety concern, distinct from the payment question |
Uber Egypt’s terms say charges are due immediately, payment is facilitated through the method designated in the account, and Uber or its collection agent sends an email receipt. They do not explain how cash payments are recorded or what a cash-trip receipt shows. Keep the app amount, receipt and your actual payment separately; if they differ, ask support to explain the difference rather than assuming which record is correct.
Screenshots and short notes can help you give an accurate account. Uber’s guidelines require truthful information when reporting incidents, disputing charges or requesting credits, and say users should request only fees or refunds they are entitled to. State what you know and distinguish it from anything you are unsure about.
Keep personal material for the support report. Uber’s guidelines say rider–driver contact should end with the trip, except when returning a lost item; unwanted later contact can be treated as harassment. They also prohibit publicly sharing or streaming another person’s image, audio or video without consent. That platform rule does not establish Egyptian recording law: the guidelines separately tell users to check local laws, which can require consent to recording in some places. This guide does not establish the rules for recording a ride in Egypt.
Turning the records into support reports
Open Help in the app for the relevant trip, or log in at help.uber.com/riders. Uber Egypt’s support article describes options for fare reviews, accidents and unprofessional driver conduct. The article is older, so current menu names and layout may differ. Its web route is also useful for a longer message.
Separate the two questions in your account of the trip:
- Payment: explain the difference you want reviewed and ask what the charge covers. Use the app, receipt and actual-payment records above.
- Driving or conduct: describe the behaviour and when and where it happened. Keep this concern clear even if the same trip also involved a payment dispute.
This separation is a writing suggestion, not a requirement to submit two tickets. Follow the options available in your app.
Uber’s article calls driver-conduct issues high priority, but gives no response deadline or promised result. Do not treat a report as a guarantee of a refund, fare adjustment, driver sanction or protection from being matched with that driver again. If a reply leaves the payment discrepancy unexplained, follow up with a specific question about the charge or cash record.
